What is the logic behind Short URLs?
Short URL’s usually hide the original/actual address, at the same time will redirect the visitors to the hidden address or website by using a 301 permanent redirection. It’s mostly used by the affiliate marketers to hide their affiliate ID’s in the links and with an intention to not look spammy. Also bloggers use this URL shortening service to shorten their extra long URL for easy remembrance.
Do Short URLs pass Google PageRank?
This was the most asked question. Yes, Short URL’s does pass pagerank as they use a 301 redirection to divert the traffic that’s flowing by. So when a search engine spider try to index that page, the real URL (hidden) will be taken into account as the 301 permanent redirection is used by these URL link shorteners.
Along with the pagerank, the anchor text used to link the Short URL will also be applicable for the destination page (actual page).
